Jacobs 2 Tuba Mouthpiece
The original mouthpiece, believed to be a 30s era Helleberg, was skeletonized at some point, 2 copies were later made probably in the 1980s with skeletonization reversed and the shanks enlarged. All 3 of these mouthpieces are owned by Brian Frederiksen author of Arnold Jacobs Song & Wind and Mr. Jacobs’ right hand. This is a mouthpiece that Mr. Jacobs loved and had slightly different versions – Jacobs 1 (both originals also owned by Brian) and Jacobs 2 made. There were two of each copy made one of each has a hole in it with a tubing connector for pressure tests. The copies had a very odd shank size so the U.S. made CHI Brass copies have updated the shank to work better with most post 1976 tubas and are available in our A shank (small American like the original Hellebrg, or standard CHI Shank. This is a great all around mouthpiece that produces a wonderful clear high overtone rich sound on the large horns and makes a great Eb and F mouthpiece as well.
In the photos you can see a side angle and the insides of the cups of the copy with hose fitting, copy, original skeletonized and on the right the now available CHI Jacobs 2.
